New VIIRS Calibrated Radiances and Geolocation Products

The new Level 1 products are created from data acquired by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) aboard the NOAA-21/Joint Polar Satellite System-2 (JPSS-2) spacecraft.

NASA's Level-1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System Distributed Active Archive Center (LAADS DAAC) has released the NOAA-21/Joint Polar Satellite System-2 (JPSS-2) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Level-1 Version 2.0 Product Collection: Calibrated Radiances and Geolocation.

The new data collection includes three products each for calibrated radiances and geolocation (each relating to image-resolution, moderate-resolution, and day-night band resolution).

The JPSS-2 (J2) mission was launched on November 10, 2022, and renamed NOAA-21 upon reaching orbit. The nadir door of the J2 VIIRS instrument was opened on December 5, 2022, while its cryo-radiator door was opened on February 8, 2023. The release date for the J2 VIIRS v2.0 collection (C2) data products starts from February 10, 2023.
