Atmosphere SIPS

Location

Madison, WI

NASA's Atmosphere Science Investigator-led Processing System (Atmosphere SIPS), located at the Space Science and Engineering Center (SSEC) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, is responsible for processing, reprocessing, production, and general assessments of joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) atmosphere products.

The Atmosphere SIPS processes Level 0 data to Level 2 and global gridded Level 3 atmosphere products using the scientific algorithm software from the Suomi NPP Atmosphere Discipline Group. The Atmosphere SIPS delivers all data products along with scientific algorithm software, associated metadata, and documentation to NASA's Level 1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System Distributed Active Archive Center (LAADS DAAC) via NASA's Suomi NPP Land SIPS

The Atmosphere SIPS also acquires near real-time algorithms for selected products and processes and delivers these products, within three hours, for distribution through NASA's Land, Atmosphere Near real-time Capability for Earth observation (LANCE).
