NASA's Level-1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System Distributed Active Archive Center (LAADS DAAC) primarily provides access to global science data products from two major flagship mission instruments: the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument aboard the Terra and Aqua platforms, and the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument aboard the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and Joint Polar Satellite System (JPSS) platforms.

MODIS Adaptive Processing System

LAADS DAAC receives data processed by the MODIS Adaptive Processing System (MODAPS) and archives and distributes MODIS products from both the Terra and Aqua platforms: Level 1 products (calibrated radiances and geolocation) and Level 2 and 3 atmosphere and land products.

LAADS DAAC offers three visual browsers of data — global, granule, and tile — to enable users to search and determine the desired data. LAADS DAAC provides access to tools such as subsetting, subsampling, reprojecting, and mosaicing.

LAADS DAAC provides access to its data holdings through MODAPS. Data searches may be conducted using product name, temporal window, collection, and spatial coordinates, or may be found and downloaded using the Level 2 and Level 3 browsers. A variety of subsetting and reprojection options are available to the user. Data may also be downloaded directly from the data pool using FTP.
