CPEX-AW

Convective Processes Experiment - Aerosols & Winds

The Convective Processes Experiment - Aerosols & Winds (CPEX-AW) was a follow-up investigation to the CPEX campaign from 2017. CPEX-AW focused on conducting a post-launch calibration/validation of the Atmospheric Dynamics Mission-Aeolus (ADM-AEOLUS) satellite as well as studying the dynamics and microphysics of the Saharan Air Layer, African Easterly Waves and Jets, Tropical Easterly Jet, and deep convection in the InterTropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ).

CPEX-AW consisted of one deployment during August - September, 2021, from St. Croix in the U.S. Virgin Islands. NASA's DC-8 collected airborne remotely sensed measurements of aerosol and wind properties. CPEX-AW was a joint effort between NASA and the ESA (European Space Agency).
