Land Data at EOSDIS
Land products involve two related Global Change Master Directory (GCMD) disciplines. Land Surface includes geophysical processes and parameters involving the Earth’s land surfaces (e.g., surface temperature, soil moisture, vegetation cover, and land use). The Solid Earth discipline includes data sets related to processes arising in the Earth’s interior (e.g., gravity, geomagnetism, tectonics) which, although originating from below the surface, still can be analyzed from ground, air, or space-based measurements. EOSDIS DAACs hold approximately 1300 land surface and solid earth data sets, with some products overlapping other disciplines, such as frozen ground also within the Cryosphere discipline and some surface radiative property data sets contained also in the Atmosphere discipline. The primary DAACs specializing in this discipline are CDDIS, LP DAAC and ORNL DAAC. Several other DAACs also hold land data as they relate to their respective disciplines.
