A false-color corrected reflectance image of black smoke emanating from an oil storage facility near Matanzas, Cuba, from August 8, 2022. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite. One of the eight oil storage tanks at the facility was struck by lightning on August 5, 2022. A second tank caught on fire on August 6, which subsequently spread to a third and fourth tank by August 8, 2022. In the image, black smoke can be seen reaching Havana, which is almost 80 km/50 miles to the west.
