VIIRS Version 1 Data Products To Be Decommissioned

On July 31, 2025, NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) will cease distribution of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Version 1 Land Cover Dynamics, Burned Area, and Bidirectional Reflectance Distribution Function (BRDF)/Albedo Products. This will complete the decommissioning of all VIIRS Version 1 data. These products will no longer be available for search and download from NASA’s Earthdata Search, LP DAAC Data Pool, or the Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS).

The User Guides and Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents (ATBDs) for VIIRS Version 1 data products will be retained and available via the Digital Object Identifier (DOI) dataset landing pages. The DOI landing pages will remain available as permanent URLs for historical information and citations.

Users are highly encouraged to transition to the VIIRS Version 2 data products, which include data from both the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) and the NOAA-20 satellites.

VIIRS Version 2 data products are available for download through NASA’s Earthdata Search and AppEEARS.
