Two printed wire assemblies (PWA) on the Terra satellite stopped working, resulting in lost data from the Multi-angle Imaging SpectroRadiometer (MISR) and the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on June 28th and June 29th, 2021. Radiation from the Sun and deep space likely caused an overcurrent issue that stopped the printed wire assemblies from working. Learn more
NASA’s Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) is pleased to announce the availability of the Harmonized Landsat and Sentinel Version 2 (HLS-2) data products. These products provide consistent surface reflectance (SR) and top of atmosphere (TOA) brightness data from the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard the joint NASA-USGS Landsat 8 satellite and the Multi-Spectral Instrument (MSI) aboard the European Space Agency’s Sentinel-2A and -2B satellites. The combined measurements from these instruments offer global observations of the Earth’s terrestrial surface every 2–3 days at 30-meter spatial resolution. Among the improvements to the HLS-2 data products are additional data layers consisting of solar and viewing azimuth and zenith angle bands, Aerosol Quality Assurance bits from the USGS Land Surface Reflectance Code (LaSRC) model output added into the Function of Mask data layer, and the use of LaSRC version 3.1.0 to atmospherically correct the input Sentinel data.
Through Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2, Zero Hunger, the United Nations proposes to end hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture by 2030. NASA helps develop tools to address food security and works with decision-makers and data users to tailor these tools to specific locations and user needs. These efforts help address issues like water management for irrigation, crop-type identification and land use, drought preparedness, and famine early warnings. Find NASA data related to food security, along with resources for using these data, in the new SDG 2 Data Pathfinder.
