Lake Eyre is the largest salt lake in Australia, though it rarely is filled with water. The Lake Eyre basin is the driest and lowest geographical basin in Australia, the lake being 16 meters below sea level. The lake is filled by ephemeral rivers which only fill after rare heavy rain events.
