Iceberg Forms after Calving Event on Brunt Ice Shelf, Antarctica
Image captured on 1 March 2021, by the MODIS instrument, aboard the Terra satellite.
True color image of the calving of the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica. This image was acquired on 1 March 2021 by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), aboard the Terra satellite. The iceberg is more than 20 times the size of Manhattan, New York, an estimated size of 490 square miles (1,270 square km). Glaciologists at the British Antarctic Survey have been expecting a big calving event for about a decade.
