True-color image of the city of Ulsan, located in southeastern South Korea. Ulsan contains one of the country's most significant industrial hubs, known as the Ulsan Industrial District. Ulsan has the world's largest automobile assembling factory (operated by Hyundai Motor Company), the world's largest shipyard (operated by Hyundai Heavy Industries), and is an important petrochemical industry hub. The lavender purple roofs of the motorcar assembly plant can be seen in the top middle portion of the image, and the shipyard is located at the southern portion of the same peninsula. This image was acquired on May 1, 2023, by the Operational Land Imager (OLI) aboard the joint NASA/USGS Landsat 8 and 9 satellites. Explore this image of Ulsan in Worldview.
This image is part of the Harmonized Landsat Sentinel-2 (HLS) project, which provides 30-meter resolution, true-color surface reflectance imagery from the OLI and OLI-2 instruments aboard the joint NASA/USGS Landsat 8 and Landsat 9 satellites and the MSI sensor aboard the ESA (European Space Agency) Sentinel-2A and -2B satellites. The data from the two instruments aboard the four satellites are processed through a set of algorithms to make the imagery consistent and comparable across the instruments. This includes atmospheric correction, cloud and cloud-shadow masking, spatial co-registration and common gridding, illumination and view angle normalization, and spectral bandpass adjustment.
