Caption

True color corrected reflectance animation of Iceberg A81 calving from the Brunt Ice Shelf in Antarctica. The animation spans January 22 to 29, 2023. This image was acquired by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Aqua satellite. The iceberg is approximately 1550 km2, which is about twice the size of New York City. Professor Dominic Hodgson, British Antarctic Survey glaciologist, states that the calving was expected, is part of the natural behavior of the Brunt Ice Shelf, and is not linked to climate change.
