True-color corrected reflectance image of two cyclones, Cyclone Asani in the Bay of Bengal and Cyclone Karim in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, on May 9, 2022. This image was acquired by Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS), aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite. The two cyclones are spinning in opposite directions north and south of the equator. This similar occurrence is visible in imagery from April/May 2019 with Cyclone Fani and Cyclone Lorna.
