Dr. Rahul Ramachandran, senior research scientist at NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama, and project manager for NASA's Interagency Implementation and Advanced Concepts Team (IMPACT), is the recipient of the American Geophysical Union's (AGU) 2023 Greg Leptoukh Lecture honor. This annual AGU Honors program award is given to individuals for meritorious work or service toward the advancement and promotion of discovery and solution science. AGU’s Earth and Space Science Informatics Section chose Ramachandran in recognition of his significant contributions to informatics, computational, or data sciences through research, education, and related activities.
"I am humbled and honored by this recognition," said Ramachandran in an AGU press release about the honor. "I want to acknowledge all my current and past colleagues, collaborators and students I have had the privilege to work with over the years. In our domain of informatics and data science, it is seldom about a single person but rather about the team. I have been very fortunate to be on great teams and learn from many, many bright minds in this area."
Ramachandran's research interests span a range of topics including data science, informatics, and artificial intelligence/machine learning. Ramachandran's work with IMPACT focuses on the use of new emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence to support data management at scale and extraction of insights from large datasets.
IMPACT is a component of NASA's Earth Science Data Systems (ESDS) Program, and works to further the ESDS goal of overseeing the life cycle of Earth science data to maximize the scientific return of NASA's missions and experiments.
