The quick estimation of area and amount of damage is essential information for successful rescue and reconstruction in disaster areas. The development of automated/semi-automated approaches for rapid assessment of post-disaster areas is highly challenging. This talk describes five important challenges (out of many) and possible solutions to address them.

Presenter Bio

Dr. Surya Durbha is a Professor, CSRE, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB). Dr. Durbha has researched and developed image information mining tools for content-based knowledge retrieval from remote sensing imagery and the retrieval of biophysical variables from multi-angle satellite data. He received the NVIDIA Innovation Award 2016 for his work in image information mining and high performance computing.
