We are in the process of migrating all NASA Earth science data sites into Earthdata from now until end of 2026. Not all NASA Earth science data and resources will appear here until then. Thank you for your patience as we make this transition.

GloSSAC
Global Satellite-based Stratospheric Aerosol Climatology
The Global Space-based Stratospheric Aerosol Climatology (GloSSAC) is a NASA-supported, multi-decadal dataset that provides vertically resolved, globally distributed stratospheric aerosol extinction profiles. Compiled from satellite solar occultation, limb-scattering, and lidar measurements, GloSSAC extends from 1979 to present, with key instruments from Stratospheric Aerosol and Gas Experiment (SAGE), OSIRIS, and CALIPSO.
The project also utilizes data from other space instruments and from ground-based, air and balloon borne instruments to fill in key gaps in the data set. The end result is a global and gap-free data set focused on aerosol extinction coefficients at 525 and 1020 nm and other parameters on an 'as available' basis.
