A new NASA Carbon Monitoring System (CMS) Methane Point-Source Emissions dataset provides maps of methane (CH4) plumes along flight lines over methane emitting point-sources across the State of California collected during 2016 and 2017. Methane plume locations were derived from Next-Generation Airborne Visible Infrared Imaging Spectrometer (AVIRIS-NG) overflights during the California Methane Survey. The purpose of the survey was to detect, quantify, and attribute point source emissions to specific infrastructure elements to improve the scientific understanding of regional methane budgets and to inform policy and planning activities that reduce methane emissions. The Sentinel-5 Precursor (Sentinel-5P or S5P) satellite missIon is one of the European Space Agency's (ESA) new Sentinel mission family, and is a joint initiative between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and ESA. The sole payload on Sentinel-5P is the Tropospheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI). TROPOMI is a nadir-viewing 108° field-of-view push-broom grating hyperspectral spectrometer, with wavelength ranges in the ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS, 270-495 nm), near infrared (NIR, 675-775 nm), and shortwave infrared (SWIR, 2305-2385 nm). Sentinel-5P is the first of the Atmospheric Composition Sentinels, providing measurements of ozone (O3), nitrogen dioxide (NO2), sulfur dioxide (SO2), methane (CH4), carbon monoxide (CO), and formaldehyde (HCHO), as well as cloud and aerosol properties, at high spatial, temporal, and spectral resolutions. NASA's Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) now provides support for 18 TROPOMI atmospheric composition products, and six associated VIIRS cloud measurements.
