False-color image (Bands 7-2-1) of the Thomas Fire in southern California acquired on 17 December 2017. The false-color corrected reflectance image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument, aboard the Terra satellite, and overlaid with the MODIS/Terra fire and thermal anomalies detections, shown as red dots. The 7-2-1 band combination is useful for highlighting burn scars - the red area in the center of the image is the burn scar from the Thomas fire.
