True color corrected reflectance image of smoke emanating from fires in Eastern Russia. The image was acquired on 22 June 2020 by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) instrument, aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite. Red dots overlaid on the image are thermal anomalies/hotspots detected by the VIIRS thermal anomalies algorithm. They represent the center of a 375m pixel flagged as containing one or more thermal anomalies.
