Fires Continue in New South Wales and Queensland, Australia
Image captured on 22 December 2019, by the VIIRS instrument, aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi NPP satellite.
True-color image of smoke from fires in New South Wales and Queensland, Australia acquired on 22 December 2019 by the Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) Instrument, aboard the joint NASA/NOAA Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) satellite. The red points on the image represent the center of a 375m pixel where a fire or thermal anomaly has been detected.
Turn on and off the Aerosol Index layer from the Ozone Mapping Profiler Suite (OMPS) instrument on to see the high aerosol index as a result of the smoke emanating from the fires.
