POWER Releases its New Data Access Viewer enhanced (DAVe)

The new application from NASA's Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) Project replaces its previous Data Access Viewer.

NASA's Prediction Of Worldwide Energy Resources (POWER) Project released its new Data Access Viewer enhanced (DAVe). DAVe is a web mapping application with enhanced capabilities to help members of the renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and agroclimatology communities access and use targeted NASA Earth observation data.

Among DAVe's features are:

  • Improved interactive menus for parameter selection and data download that let users:
    • Select groups of parameters based upon community standards and units​
    • Subset data based on single point or bounding-box-defined study areas
    • Choose download parameters in general and community-specific formats
  • Visualization and charting of key data parameters such as thermal zones, monthly heat maps, anomalies, and annual cycles
  • Integrated reporting capabilities such as Climatic Design Conditions derived from American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) equations
  • New climate projection data and visualizations developed as a part of the NASA Climate Adaptation Science Investigators (CASI) Program

The new DAVe replaces POWER's previous data access tool, the Data Access Viewer. In addition, users can find an interactive tutorial on the DAVe homepage, walkthrough text and a brief video demonstration on the POWER website, and a more detailed demonstration on YouTube.

About the POWER Project

The POWER Project's mission is to improve learning, decisions, and outcomes in the renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, and agroclimatology user communities. The project provides easily accessible, customized, and trusted NASA solar and meteorological data for past, current, and future climates for any location in the world. Many of these data are available through NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) and are distributed through NASA's Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC) and Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC). In addition, near real-time data also are available.

POWER improves the public and private capability for integrating these NASA Earth observations and model data into their workflows through a diverse suite of tools and services. The project provides free access to its Analysis Ready Data (ARD) via POWER's Application Programming Interface (API), DAVe, geospatial services, and cloud-enabled data store.
