For the AmeriGEO Week2021 held virtually on August 23‒27, Earth Institute postdoctoral research scientist Cascade Tuholske gave a pre-recorded presentation "Urban Extreme Heat Exposure Trajectories in AmeriGEO Countries." Staff from Columbia University's Center for International Earth Science Information Network (CIESIN), the International Research Institute (IRI), and Lehman College, and graduate students from Lehman, presented and authored four poster papers. The students are interns working with postdoctoral research scientist Carolynne Hultquist, supported by NASA's Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), operated by the Center.
For the second Knowledge Discovery and Data Mining (KDD) Workshop on Data-driven Humanitarian Mapping, held virtually on August 15, Lehman College student Lauren Carey gave a pre-recorded presentation on extracting street-level flood vulnerability data from Google Street View, based on a workshop paper "Advancing Data for Street-Level Flood Vulnerability: Evaluation of Variables Extracted from Google Street View in Quito, Ecuador" co-authored with fellow students Raychell Velez, Christopher Aime, and Diana Calderon, together with staff from CIESIN, IRI, and Lehman College.
