Since inception, the Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) interactive online visualization and analysis infrastructure (Giovanni) has been developed with the primary goals of making the system easy to use and making the visualization and analyses run quickly, while providing full information context. These goals have strongly guided the development of Giovanni-4, which along with the cost-saving use of available “off-the-shelf” software, has dramatically improved the analytical speed of the system.

Giovanni-4 also includes an expanded suite of analytical choices. Giovanni-4 operates with a single user interface incorporating faceted search, so that any of the available data variables can be analyzed simultaneously. This major redesign feature makes the system more useful for multi-variable, multi-disciplinary research. The Federated Giovanni project in turn markedly increases the availability of data from other NASA Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) which further enhances the multidisciplinary aspect.

In this presentation, the major features that are central to the Giovanni-4 design concept will be demonstrated, along with the current and near-future data sets that will be available in the system through the Federated Giovanni project.
