The Big Earth Data Initiative (BEDI) was undertaken to facilitate work to improve data access capabilities for all users of NASA Earth Science data. NASA's Land Processes Distributed Active Archive Center (LP DAAC) responded to the initiative by creating a new strategy for making LP DAAC data available via web based services. LP DAAC deployed data access services (OPeNDAP) to provide access to data, Middleware/Metadata services to provide information and details about the data, and then developed User Interfaces (UI) and Application Program Interfaces (API) to utilize and consume these services to provide the specific data that users desire.

This presentation will show how these different levels of services were created and how they can function together as a tool for users to gain specific insight into the data provided by LP DAAC. LP DAAC’s Application for Extracting and Exploring Analysis Ready Samples (AppEEARS) point extraction tool capabilities will also be explored and explained.
