In February 2017, NASA's Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) was launched and installed on the International Space Station (ISS). The ISS LIS measures the amount, rate, and energy of lightning flashes around the world, at higher latitudes than were previously possible. In this talk, NASA's Global Hydrology Resource Center (GHRC) Distributed Active Archive Center (DAAC) provides an overview of the ISS LIS near real-time and research quality data that allow for the study of lightning in hazardous weather over much of the Earth. This webinar will include demonstrations on how these new ISS LIS data products can be used within Python, GIS and other applications to study lightning that occurred during the 2017 hurricane season.
