False color image of the Thomas Fire, California on 17 December 2017 (MODIS/Terra)

False color image (Bands 7-2-1) of the Thomas Fire in southern California acquired on 17 December 2017. The false color corrected reflectance image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) instrument, on board NASA's Terra satellite, and overlaid with the MODIS/Terra fire and thermal anomalies detections, shown as red dots. The 7-2-1 band combination is useful for highlighting burn scars - the red area in the center of the image is the burn scar from the Thomas fire.
