IMPACT team members Ge Peng, Brian Freitag, and Aimee Barciauskas will be co-convening sessions on informatics at the American Geophysical Union 2022 Conference #AGU22 in Chicago. A Call Out for Informatics Abstracts for AGU 2022
Peng will be co-convening a session focused on adopting trustworthy data repository stewardship. Sharing of Earth and space science data within and across disciplines depends on capabilities for enabling reuse of data collected by the scientific community. Mutual commitments and responsibilities between data producers, who provide high quality data as well as information about data quality, and data repositories that provide stewardship can enable and broaden data reuse. Trustworthy repositories can attract data with potential interdisciplinary value and serve users across disciplines. Well-known principles — TRUST for digital repositories, FAIR for data, CARE for indigenous data governance, and GEO principles for data sharing and data management — offer guidance for data repositories to improve data curation and stewardship. This session describes how these principles and other guidance have contributed to the trustworthy capabilities of data repositories to enable reuse across disciplines.
Asked about the goals of the session, Peng replied:
"The session focuses on leveraging capabilities of trustworthy repositories and/or adopting community research data management and stewardship principles that contribute to the enhanced sharing and appropriate (re)use of scientific data within and across disciplines. This session welcomes presentations on success stories and also lessons learnt."

Brian and Aimee will be co-convening a session focused on “next-generation data systems for Earth Science,” particularly solutions to the challenges facing spatial data infrastructures (SDI) in archiving, processing, analyzing, and visualizing open Earth observation (EO) data. Presentations on cloud enabled, novel SDIs for Earth Observation data management, processing, analysis, geographic information systems, visualization and interactive exploration are welcome, as are studies of comparative EO platforms for specific Earth science topics.
