Earthdata Connects With End Users through Social Media and Webinars
A new NASA Earthdata social media outreach effort, along with the ongoing NASA Earthdata Webinar series and an upcoming re-design of the Earthdata website, helps users around the world discover the vast array of EOSDIS products, tools, and services.

The Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) is a key core capability in The Earth Science Data Systems (ESDS) Program. It manages some of the most complex and diverse Earth science datasets on the planet from various sources, including satellites, aircraft, field measurements, and numerous other programs.
Staying connected with the EOSDIS is now easier than ever due to NASA Earthdata social media outreach efforts that will help users discover and use the wide range of EOSDIS Earth science data, information, services, and tools. Through Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, the Earthdata social media efforts are designed to complement NASA Earthdata Webinars and help set the stage for a redesign of the EOSDIS flagship Earthdata website later this year.
EOSDIS social media content features information about new data products; stories and imagery from Sensing Our Planet, the annual EOSDIS publication showcasing Earth science data holdings and products; an Image of the Week from the Earthdata website or related Earth Observing System (EOS)/NASA Earth science projects or programs; data animations/videos; and links to data access tutorials, materials, videos, and images.
Response to the Earthdata social media sites has been positive. Since the start of the social media efforts this past March through July 25, the EOSDIS Twitter feed has 293 Followers; the Facebook page has 204 Likes; and the YouTube channel has 20 Subscribers and 510 Views for the 18 posted videos.
EOSDIS is also continuing its well-received NASA Earthdata Webinar series, which began in May 2013. Each hour-long presentation showcases a different EOSDIS data product and/or data discovery or access tool. EOSDIS has hosted 19 webinars since the start of this program, and participation has included viewers from more than 30 countries. Webinars are held the fourth Wednesday of every month at 2 pm, ET. To receive announcements of upcoming webinars, sign up for the mailing list or e-mail your contact information to firstname.lastname@example.org. Miss a webinar? You can view archived webinars on YouTube.
