Interested in NASA Atmospheric Data? Check Out the New Atmospheric Science User Forum

The new Atmospheric Science User Forum helps facilitate discussion about NASA atmospheric data and missions

Josh Blumenfeld, EOSDIS Science Writer

Whether you are a seasoned user of NASA’s large collection of atmospheric data or a new data user looking for specific atmospheric data sets and tools, the Atmospheric Science User Forum is a valuable new resource. The forum provides a quick and easy way to connect data users around the world and facilitate discussion about NASA atmospheric data and missions.

The Atmospheric Science User Forum provides:

  • Connections with other users
  • Opportunities for collaboration and discussion
  • Resources for problem resolution, including access to science subject matter experts
  • Access to a searchable knowledge base
  • Tools for fostering inter-project and inter-disciplinary research

The forum features content from Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Distributed Active Archive Centers (DAACs) with atmospheric data collections. Current forum participants include NASA's Atmospheric Science Data Center (ASDC), Global Hydrology Resource Center DAAC (GHRC DAAC), Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC), Level 1 and Atmosphere Archive and Distribution System DAAC (LAADS DAAC), and Oak Ridge National Laboratory DAAC (ORNL DAAC).

Anyone is free to browse the forum. If you want to post to the forum, you will need an Earthdata Login account, which can be created easily for free through the forum. When you access the forum home page, you’ll see information about creating an Earthdata Login account and a separate box with posting requirements. Below this, you’ll see links to discussions about general atmospheric science topics along with links to discussion topics related to specific atmospheric missions and data sets. The right column of the forum home page is devoted to atmospheric news for specific DAACs and missions. A search box at the top of the home page makes it easy to find specific topics and discussions.

The Atmospheric Science User Forum will be a featured EOSDIS Webinar this May. For more information about this Webinar, please see the EOSDIS Webinars and Tutorials page on the Earthdata website.
