NASA's Physical Oceanography Distributed Active Archive Center (PO.DAAC) is the NASA archive for physical oceanography data, providing remote sensing and in situ measurements for ocean sea level, ocean winds, sea surface temperature, sea surface salinity, and changes to Earth’s gravity. During this webinar we will introduce NASA’s open science policy and how it advances Earth science research. We will highlight new PO.DAAC cloud-based missions such as the Sentinel-6 Michael Freilich mission, the emerging Surface Water and Ocean Topography (SWOT) mission, and the Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean (ECCO) mission as well as discuss legacy data from existing missions.

A focus will also be placed on in situ datasets available at PO.DAAC from the Saildrone autonomous sailing vessels, Salinity Processes in the Upper-Ocean Regional Study (SPURS-1 and 2), Oceans Melting Greenland (OMG) and in the future, datasets from the Sub-Mesoscale Ocean Dynamics Experiment (S-MODE) mission. A live demonstration will show users how to use cloud-specific services, and tools to work with our data holdings. Finally, we’ll present some recent research findings and success stories of these data, and demonstrate their utility for coastal oceanography. By the end of the webinar we aim to provide enough familiarity with PO.DAAC data sources to enable our user communities to interact with and leverage in their science or applications efforts, including within the cloud environment.
