Additionally, a Hybrid Pluggable Processing Pipeline (HyP3) subscription was prepared to generate radiometric terrain corrected (RTC) products for NASA and the National Weather Service.

GES DISC

NASA's Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center (GES DISC) security team continued reviewing the open Plan of Action/Milestones (POA&Ms), creating responses to several of them. They are working on additional documentation and SSP updates to supplement requests for closure of the open POA&Ms. The security team has been informed that the Assessment and Authorization and review of the GES DISC System Security Plan (SSP) will be deferred until December. Security team briefly reviewed all open POA&Ms and with the goal of addressing most of them and closing them out before the December assessment.

At GES DISC, 46 of the most often used variables from the Atmospheric Infrared Sounder (AIRS)-only daily product AIRS3STD_V006 have been promoted to the GES-DISC DAAC On-line Visualization and Analysis System (Giovanni). This will allow Giovanni able to explore AIRS data up to present. The variables from AIRS+AMSU product (AIRX3STM and AIRX3STD) on Giovanni are only up to date through September 2016, when the Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit (AMSU)-A2 microwave instrument ceased to work.

GHRC DAAC

NASA's Global Hydrometeorology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has published the Global Precipitation Measurement Ground Validation (GPM-GV) NCAR Particle Probes Olympic Mountain Experiment (OLYMPEX) dataset. The dataset consists ice water content, particle concentration normalized by bin width, and total particle concentration collected from 3 instruments flown on the University of North Dakota Citation aircraft during 20 missions in November and December 2015. The instruments included the PMS Two-Dimensional Cloud probe (2D-C), the SPEC Two-dimensional Stereo probe (2D-S), and two SPEC High Volume Precipitation Spectrometer 3 (HVPS-3), all two-dimensional optical array probes which record images of variously-sized particles that travel through the sampling area. All data were collected during the OLYMPEX field campaign held at Washington's Olympic Peninsula.

GHRC DAAC is pleased to announce the public “beta” release of near real-time data from the Lightning Imaging Sensor (LIS) on the International Space Station (ISS). Lightning observations and background data files are generated within minutes of observation. A browse web page (lightning.nsstc.nasa.gov/isslisib/isslisnrt.html) shows the most recent two minutes of lightning data on a map, along with composite image showing lightning observations for the past 12 hours. The two LIS (ISS) datasets are:

GHRC DAAC published beta versions of the Lightning Imaging Sensor on the International Space Station - LIS (ISS) non-quality-controlled standard products on September 17. These data are made available to users until a manual quality control process is complete, at which time they will be replaced by the archive version of the products.

These data are collected by the LIS (ISS) used to detect the distribution and variability of total lightning occurring in the Earth’s tropical and subtropical regions. These data can be used for severe storm detection and analysis, as well as for lightning-atmosphere interaction studies. The LIS instrument makes measurements during both day and night with high detection efficiency. The data are available in both Hierarchical Data Format 4 (HDF4) and Network Common Data Form 4 (netCDF-4) formats. Data is available from 3/1/2017 forward.

LP DAAC

NASA's Land Processes DAAC (LP DAAC) publicly released a new collection of Terra and Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Version 6 Land Surface Temperature and Emissivity (LST&E) data products on September 21. These products (M*D21's) offer an alternative to the previously released M*D11 LST&E data collection as they differ in algorithm composition and implementation. M*D21 datasets are available at 1 kilometer resolution for 5-minute, daily, and eight-day temporal periods. There is a total of eight products in the collection.
