EOSDIS Data News: June 16, 2017


NASA's Global Hydrology Resource Center Distributed Active Archive Center (GHRC DAAC) has published the Global Precipitation Measurement Ground Validation (GPM-GV) Autonomous Parsivel Unit (APU) Olympic Mountain Experiment (OLYMPEX) dataset. The dataset consists of data collected by 16 APUs. The APU is an optical laser-disdrometer based on single particle extinction that measures particle size and fall velocity. It consists of the Parsivel2 developed by OTT in Germany and supporting hardware developed by University of Alabama. This APU dataset provides precipitation data including precipitation amount, precipitation rate, reflectivity in Rayleigh regime, liquid water content, drop diameter, and drop concentration. Data were collected were during the OLYMPEX field campaign held at Washington's Olympic Peninsula during the intense observation period of January 1, 2015 through January 1 2016.


NASA's National Snow and Ice Data Center DAAC (NSIDC DAAC) Common Metadata Repository (CMR) project team completed an effort to update and consolidate collection-level metadata export to CMR with single service. With this release, all collection-level metadata for datasets managed within ECS are being exported to CMR using ISO 19115. This project accomplished both a reconciliation of metadata in CMR as well as an improvement to metadata export services and workflows. Included in this phase of work was the transition to the new Earth Science Data Type (ESDT) process, which enables the DAAC to locally generate ESDTs from metadata contained in CMR. The new ESDT process will reduce the time to ingest new data products into ECS.
NASA IceBridge High Capability Radar Sounder (HiCARS) 2 L1B Time-Tagged Echo Strength Profiles data are now available from NSIDC DAAC. This dataset contains Antarctica echo strength profiles from the HiCARS Version 2 instrument.


NASA's Physical Oceanography DAAC (PO.DAAC) Ingestion testing has completed successfully for the following two new datasets:
  • Provisional Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 Science Data Record Version 1.1 datasets from the Cyclone Global Navigation Satellite System (CYGNSS) Project (ingest will begin after the University of Michigan Data Provider completes reprocessing).
  • The Group for High Resolution Sea Surface Temperature (GHRSST) Data Specification (GDS) 2 Level 3U dataset for Global Subskin Sea Surface Temperature from the Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer 2 (AMSR-2) instrument on the Global Change Observation Mission-Water "SHIZUKU" (GCOM-W) satellite (Remote Sensing Systems is the Data Provider for this dataset).
