Data Providers

Data Providers

All activities funded by Earth Science Division shall comply with the longstanding Data and Information Policy.

All publicly available data (and data product software) shall be archived, managed, and distributed by DAACs for the entirety of the mission or project lifecycle and beyond.

All projects shall conform to community standards for formats, interfaces, metadata, etc.

All projects shall develop Data Management Plans (DMPs).

ESDIS Project and assigned DAACs will be involved in the review of DMPs

All projects shall deliver Algorithm Theoretical Basis Documents (ATBDs) and software at designated times during the mission or project lifecycle.

Latency requirements for delivery of products and software will be tailored to activities (i.e., tied to KDPs of flight projects) and included in DMPs.

Provided on a "best effort" basis or directed in project agreements with NASA HQ.

All projects shall present a plan to preserve data at close-out based on the approved template.

*Deviations from these requirements will be considered on a case-by-case basis.*

DAACs

Ensure data integrity upon ingest and any further internal transfers (e.g., for back-up and recovery).

Maintain data products in an online primary archive.

Maintain capabilities for off-site back-up and recovery.

Maintain and manage a public website that provides, at a minimum, access to and information on data products, services, documentation, user support, and guidance on how to properly cite data.

Ensure the following items are searchable and accessible by users:

Product and software (source code) used for product generation.

Product documentation (ATBD, software specification, users' guide, data quality information, etc.).

Product's Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and landing page.

Image data formatted and ingested in Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) database.

Distribute data to users in accordance with the NASA Earth Science Data and Information Policy and in ESO-approved standards formats.

Provide data distribution metrics to the ESDIS Metrics System (EMS).

Assist users in the resolution of problems in using data products or services.

*The above services shall be provided after products have been delivered to the designated DAAC.*

Joint Requirements for Public Release of Products

The following items shall be available to the public at the designated DAAC prior to product release:

Product and software (source code) used for product generation.

Product documentation (ATBD, software specification, users' guide, data quality information, etc.).

Product's Digital Object Identifier (DOI) and landing page.

Common Metadata Repository (CMR) entries at collection and granule level.

Metadata compliant with standards documented in the URL

Image data formatted and ingested into Global Imagery Browse Services (GIBS) database.

*The above items require close collaboration between the PI and/or Data Provider and the DAAC.*
