Thank you for your comments on the WMS RFC. After review of comments received, the Technical working group could not find enough evidence of implementation of WMS version 1.3 to warrant endorsement as a community standard. Instead, we are releasing that proposal as a technical note on use of an emerging standard. We did find a great deal of support for use of WMS in the NASA community and so we have also initiated a new RFC for use of WMS 1.1.1 as a community standard. With your permission, we would like to apply your previous comments to our review of implementation of that version of OGC WMS. See: http://earthdata.nasa.gov/our-community/esdswg/standards-process-spg/rfc... TWG Notes: To recap - the TWG for RFC-005 felt that since most of the comments for the RFC indicated people were using and commenting on WMS 1.1.1, we should move ahead with that version of the spec for the eventual community standard, and that we should move ahead with WMS 1.3 as a technical note indicating it is an emerging standard. RFC-005 is now for WMS 1.3, and is a Tech Note draft. It is posted at http://earthdata.nasa.gov/our-community/esdswg/standards-process-spg/rfc... RFC-006 is now for WMS 1.1.1, and is a Community Standard draft. It is posted at http://earthdata.nasa.gov/library/esds-rfc-006v1pdf The .pdf version of RFC-006 at http://earthdata.nasa.gov/library/esds-rfc-006v1pdf is now fully self-contained, it includes the content of the OGC WMS 1.1.1 spec. The .doc and version at http://earthdata.nasa.gov/our-community/esdswg/standards-process-spg/rfc... does not include the spec due to the fact that it's not possible to include a .pdf file inside that format. |
