The ESDIS Project meets the requirements for processing, archiving and distributing data from many parts of NASA’s overall Earth Science Program. These include data from satellite missions including the Earth Observing System (EOS), the Earth Systematic Missions that follow EOS, and heritage missions such as Nimbus-7 and UARS. They also include aircraft missions, field campaigns, and Earth System Data Records from the MEaSUREs Program. Representative active missions in Spring 2011 along with example Earth science measurements are shown in the figure below. These missions perform measurements to advance understanding of the entire Earth system -- the atmosphere, the land, the oceans, the cryosphere, and the solar driving force. For more information about Earth science missions and measurements please consult the Earth Science Reference Handbook. |
